Repairs and Retrofitting of Timber Buildings in Post Earthquake Restoration  - Nepal and India

Nepal has been vulnerable to Earthquakes, and suffered a major one in 2015, when many of its heritage buildings suffered extensive damages. However some conservation practices have remained tenuous to this aspect. This lacuna is being addressed during the restoration and reconstruction of its damaged heritage buildings, built mainly using brick and timber. The presentation discusses the various methods of repair and retrofitting to timber elements in these buildings including some examples from India to mitigate the risks of Earthquakes, which at times are also in conflict with local traditions.
