Join APT-DVC and Fairmount Park Conservancy for a volunteer workday at Letitia House on Tuesday, May 12th, from 2:00 PM - 5:00 PM. This public volunteer event is open to all ages. Anyone interested is welcome to participate.
Volunteers will be able to select their project, including:
Removing invasive species
Trash pick-up as needed
We will offer brief tours of the Letitia House to all volunteers during the workday.
An Old City treasure box of Early Georgian Architecture, Letitia Street House was built circa 1713 and moved to its current location adjacent to the Philadelphia Zoo in 1883. Mistakenly identified with a connection to William Penn, the building was preserved as a monument marking the 200th anniversary of Pennsylvania's founding in 1682. After decades of stewarded by many non-profits including the PMA, the building became vacant in 2008. Through support of Philadelphia Parks and Recreation and the William Penn Foundation, together with the conservation staff at the Fairmount Park Conservancy, restoration of the building exterior was completed in 2014 and the interior a few years later. Letitia House is now the headquarters of the Centennial Parkside CDC, serving the communities around West Fairmount Park through programming and neighborhood advocacy.
