When I was first starting out as a carpenter in 1998, I was hungry for knowledge and experience in every task we did. I loved (and still do!) what I did. The tools, the smell of fresh cut wood, the satisfaction of building and seeing the daily progress of what we accomplished. At the time, I had limited resources and access to training and information. As a new father and young husband, I was also hungry for opportunity and growth. I realized as well that I was in a trade that was finding it hard to draw young talent.

Fast forward 27 years, and I have my own carpentry company that focuses on historic restoration and preservation. I still have a hunger for growth and knowledge, as well as I am jealous that others to have access to either information, opportunity, or experience in the historic and preservation trades. It is why I have three apprentices who work with me. I want my team to learn not just to “install” something, but to be able to recreate and re-fabricate. I want to build in them a love and appreciation for our historic built environment. I want them also to think as a preservationist, as we have the opportunity to work on some of our local historic assets.

It is my desire to share this love and passion for what we do. Living in the Philadelphia region, I feel we have a unique role and responsibility to share that passion and to educate, not just our peers and industry colleagues, but to transfer that as well into our local communities. I have enjoyed APT events and speaking with like-minded folks. My hope in being a board member is to help shine a light on our historic assets and as it relates to carpentry.
